{"id":15396,"date":"2024-04-11T20:04:29","date_gmt":"2024-04-11T20:04:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncesr.unl.edu\/?page_id=15396"},"modified":"2024-04-11T20:04:29","modified_gmt":"2024-04-11T20:04:29","slug":"2012-2013-energy-research-grants-cycle-7","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ncesr.unl.edu\/?page_id=15396","title":{"rendered":"2012\/2013 Energy Research Grants &#8212; Cycle 7"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>NCESR.<\/strong> The Nebraska Center for Energy Sciences Research (NCESR), a collaboration between the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), was established in April 2006 to conduct research on renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and energy conservation; and to expand economic opportunities and improve quality of life for Nebraska and the nation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Goal.<\/strong> The overall goal of the NCESR is to foster research and education in energy sciences by providing funding to support innovative research and collaboration among University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty and other public- and private-sector organizations and businesses working in energy sciences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Request for Proposals.<\/strong> The NCESR released the Request for Proposals (RFP) for its seventh competitive round Energy Research Grants on April 11, 2012. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Selections.<\/strong> The External Advisory Committee (EAC) met on October 23, 2012 and selected seven energy research projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u27a2 <em>Developing Efficient Pyrite Photovoltaic Cells<\/em> \u2013 Jinsong Huang, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering <br>\u27a2 <em>Three-Dimensional Graphene-Based Scaffolds for Supercapacitor Applications<\/em> &#8212; Alexander Sinitskii, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry <br>\u27a2 <em>Developing a Break-Through in Methane Production from Anaerobic Digestion of Open-Lot Feedlot Manure<\/em> \u2013 Galen Erickson, Professor, Department of Animal Science <br>\u27a2 <em>High Throughput Screening for Compounds that Induce Lipid Accumulation in Algae for Biofuel Production<\/em> \u2013 Concetta DiRusso, Professor, Department of Biochemistry <br>\u27a2 <em>Near-Field (Nano-Gap) Concentrated Solar Thermophotovoltaic Microsystem<\/em> \u2013 Sidy Ndao, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering <br>\u27a2 <em>Enhancement of Pyroelectric Effect on Organic-Inorganic Interfaces<\/em> \u2013 Axel Enders, Associate Professor, Department of Physics and Astronomy <br>\u27a2 <em>Collaborative Carbon Capture Research<\/em> \u2013 Yasar Demirel, Professor, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Project Period.<\/strong> Each project is intended to cover the two-year period of January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2014.
